On the whole the hostel is really good great location, comfortable rooms, very clean, good bathrooms, nice cafe and bar. Thanks for the recommendations which we are now looking to implement. We really enjoyed our stay here, and would definitely come back! We pride ourselves on our customer service and we normally get very good staff ratings from our guests.

Kick Ass Hostel

Meaning there are plenty for eveyone. The room was an incredible spacious room with bunk beds. One bed was a almost double bed sized, the other top bunk was single bed sized. The room was very clean. There was good WiFi speeds. There were plenty of electricity sockets located right next to the bed for phone charging. They were clean and never seemed to be overly busy so we never had to wait. The shower ran a little too warm set temperature for my liking and were push button, making them slightly annoying to be always pushing the button. The only downside was if you want a early night, the nightlife from the hostel itself was a little noisy before midnight but that was not a big deal. More Show less Hey Courtney. Our showers are a push button system that does time out after a short time but customers can press the kickass hostel edinburgh as many times as they like to start the the shower again. We installed these showers to save on water and improve our green credentials. The hostel is in the city center and it overlooks the castle in some rooms you can see the castle from the window. The room had plenty of space and you get a free locker next to your bed. They have an elevator as well. The receptionists were all cool and respectful. There is no kitchen however they have a nice restaurant. The hostel isn't expensive as well. They made an extra effort to make sure we could stay for two nights, although not in the same room. They have two hostels, which are a two-minute walk apart and so we stayed here one night and Budget Backpackers on the second night. The design of the hostel is just amazing, the building is incredible and staff was very nice. Absolutely stunning view of Edinburgh Castle!. Everything feels secure due to the electronic key system. Rooms were clean, spacious even in an 8-bed dorm. Showers were nice and clean, good water pressure. Not a lot of noise from the street. Food is very good, although I have to admit they stop serving food quite early 10pm. Knowing backpackers and myself, there are definitely plenty of people that would love some food after 10pm. We were nearly too late to get kickass hostel edinburgh on the first night, having arrived quite late and people coming in a few minutes after us weren't served anymore. There is a cafe on the main floor and a bar on the top floor. The bar is okay but was never too busy when I was there and was there on the weekend. It has cheap beer and decently priced food that is alright for the price. The hostel had planned events at night but didn't really seem like anyone really participated. It depends on the crowd in. On the other hand, you have to pay for a padlock or have your own one to be able to lock up your things. Rooms are ok, but of course your sleep quality and cleanliness, or to be honest: smell depends on who you share your room with. Shared bathrooms are somewhat uncomfortable and not really clean well, they can't clean it after every person. Next time I would choose a room with ensuite. And it would be great if there were private option. Tip: Be careful, don't leave your swipe card in the room and know that dividing the group even for a shower is not that easy and you have to plan this, otherwise you can wait on the hallway till someone from the room comes back. I was given only one key a swipe card to the door while I wasn't a lonesome traveller. I assume that I could have made few separate bookings so I'd get few magnetic swipe cards. Although as you point out it is not possible to clean the showers after every guest we do ensure they are inspected every hour to maintain high levels of cleanliness. Sorry if somebody in your room had questionable hygiene standards. Had you mentioned it to our reception we would have either changed your room or had a word in the ear of the guest in question.
